The North Fork of Long Island is my secret paradise. It isn't flashy, like the Hamptons. It isn't suburban, like the rest of Long Island. The North Fork is like a best friend, the girl next door, or going back to your hometown for a visit.

There are an astounding number of wineries and farm stands in the North Fork. But, let’s talk wineries. And, wineries where I can bring the dog. On Friday nights, McCall Winery has live music and brings in the North Fork Table and Inn food truck. They are busy all night, grilling up enormous grass-fed beef burgers and uncorking their delicious wines. The McCalls wine tasting space is just off of Main Road, in what looks like a shack, next to their vineyards. There are picnic tables, some shady trees, and lots of grass, if you feel like setting out a blanket.

The beaches here remind me of where I grew up on Whidbey Island. It even smells the same, crisp, salty ocean air, that is both refreshing and relaxing at the same time.

Amazing view from the Sound View Greenport, from the common deck outside of the room. It is freezing outside, chilly from the wind coming off of the sound. But I would not want to be anywhere else.
